Biography

Nathalia Milstein was born in Lyon in 1995 into a family of Russian musicians, and began playing the piano at the age of 4 with her father Serguei Milstein. In 2013, Nathalia entered the Haute école de Musique de Genève in Nelson Goerner's class; after obtaining her Bachelor's and Master's degrees as soloist with distinction, she continued her studies with Nelson Goerner at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin. In 2018, still at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, Nathalia joins András Schiff's class.

Throughout her training, Nathalia has benefited from the advice of eminent musicians and pedagogues such as Daniel Barenboim, Mikhail Voskressensky, Elena Ashkenazy, Jan Wijn, Menahem Pressler and Enrico Pace.

Winning 1st Prize at the 10th International Piano Competition in Dublin in May 2015, Nathalia Milstein met with international success. Since then, she has been invited to perform in recital at Carnegie Hall (Zankel Hall) in New York, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, the Wigmore Hall in London, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin, the Auditorium de la Maison de la Radio, among others.

Nathalia has won competitions from an early age, including 1st prize in her category at the 3rd International Concerti Competition in Manchester, 2nd prize at the Grand Concours International de Piano à Corbelin in 2013, and 1st prize at the Concours International de Piano à Gaillard in 2014.

She also won the Prix Jeune Soliste des Médias Francophones Publics 2017, awarded by French, Swiss, Belgian and Canadian radio stations.

Among the festivals to which she has been invited are the Festival International de la Roque d'Anthéron, the Festival Radio France Occitanie, the New Ross Piano Festival, the Lille Piano Festival, La Folle Journée, the Flâneries de Reims and the Zaubersee Festival in Lucerne.

Passionate about chamber music, Nathalia regularly shares the stage with renowned musicians and is invited to perform at chamber music festivals such as the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, the Intonations Festival in Berlin, Lavaux Classic in Switzerland, and the Schiermonnikoog Festival and Scaldis Festival in the Netherlands. She has also been invited to collaborate with the Pražák Quartet on their recording of works by Bedřich Smetana.

For several years she has formed a duo with her sister Maria Milstein, a violinist; together they have recorded two discs - "La Sonate de Vinteuil" (2017) and "Ravel Voyageur" (2019), both released by Mirare to international acclaim.

During the 2020/21 season, despite the pause in cultural life, Nathalia will have had the opportunity to return to the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France - with whom she made her debut in 2016 - under Mikko Franck, and also collaborates with the Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and Arie van Beek.

In 2021/22, Nathalia will have the opportunity to tour Europe as part of the "Building Bridges" concert series organized under the aegis of András Schiff.

Supported by the Safran Foundation and the Tempo Foundation, Nathalia Milstein has recorded a first disc combining Prokofiev and Ravel, released in 2018 by Mirare and awarded a Choc Classica; a second disc "Visions fugitives" was released in September 2021 and awarded Choc Classica of the year 2021.
