Biography
A key figure on the musical scene, pianist Hortense Cartier-Bresson serves up scores with rare poetry and humility. Each recital promises an unforgettable moment of music and humanity, making her one of our most endearing pianists today.
In 1979, Hortense Cartier-Bresson made the invaluable acquaintance of the great pianist Gÿorgy Sebök, and after her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, she left to follow his teaching at Indiana University Bloomington (USA). A complete and passionate musician, she is a much-appreciated chamber musician, and has played with many musicians, including Roger Muraro, Pierre Fouchenneret, Ayako Tanaka, Raphaël Oleg, François Salque, Xavier Gagnepain, Nicolas Baldeyrou and the Quatuor Ebène.
Hortense Cartier-Bresson is artistic director of the Musique à la Prée chamber music festival.
Her two latest recordings have been warmly received by critics: Brahms opuses 116, 117 and 118 (Aparté Music) released in February 2020, and the disc devoted to Bach and the new Vienna school (Berg, Schoenberg Webern) released in February 2022.
Her remarkable generosity and her need to transmit make her one of Europe's greatest pedagogues. She is Professor of Piano at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. She is invited to give numerous master-classes in France, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Germany and Spain, and more regularly at Berlin's UDK University of the Arts, where she is a guest professor. She also sits on juries for major international competitions.
